Voices on the Page

A celebration of Voices on the Page, with readings from the winners and a special address from former cabinet minister and Labour MP Tony Benn, took place in London on the afternoon of Wednesday May 21st. You will be able to read all of the winners' texts in the next issue of Reflect magazine.
Voices on the Page is a national writing event for adults in Skills for Life/basic skills (literacy, numeracy and ESOL) classes in England and it is and has three elements: a national online storybank, a book to be published in the autumn of 2008 and an awards ceremony as part of Adult Learners' Week.
The aim of Voices on the Page is to get everyone writing and sharing stories and poems. In the first two years of the competition nearly 1000 pieces of writing have been sent in from classes all over England. All of the entries from year one are here online and the year two entries will be added soon. There is also an anthology of the 65 best entries from Year one available from New Leaf Publishers (www.newleafbooks.org.uk)
