Review of effectiveness of LLN provision for unemployed people and job seekers since the 1970s (Ongoing)
What the project entails:

This review is a survey of literacy, language and numeracy initiatives for unemployed people and job seekers since the 1970s. It will focus on looking at effectiveness of these initiatives in educational terms, and drawing out the lessons that can be learned from this for future policy-making and practice.

Researchers will map out all initiatives since the 1970s and conduct a literature search, identifying key relating to these initiatives. The main focus will be on what has been learnt from these earlier initiatives which can inform current and future policy.

Initiatives covered will include YOPS, TOPS (and pre-TOPS), YTS, ETS, REPLAN, RESTART, ET, up to the Labour government’s New Deal programmes such as E2E

Aims: To understand the effectiveness of LLN provision for unemployed people and job seekers since the 1970s. During this period there have been a wide range of initiatives, some more successful than others. The evaluations of these initiatives can provide a wealth of experience to draw upon in developing further policy.
