Towards innovative models of effective initial teacher education (Completed)
What the project entails:

This project will publish detailed case studies of creative and innovative practice within teacher education programmes. The focus of the case studies, drawn from existing NRDC teacher education research, will be on aspects of the structure and organisation of the programmes. It will complement the work of the NRDC Teacher Education Handbooks project, which has a focus on the specialist pedagogies of adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL teaching and teacher education.

Four areas of innovation and effective practice will be identified. These will be investigated in greater depth leading to the production of the case studies. Areas likely to be included are:

  • mentoring and support;
  • the organisation of teaching practice;
  • innovative partnership arrangements; and
  • teaching practice assessment.
Further information:

New project as of 2005.

Progress update:
  • to broadcast and share some of the innovative approaches that have been developed in selected LLN teacher education programmes
  • to describe how effective practice is being delivered by describing in some detail the different ways providers are innovating.
  • to support and develop the quality of initial and continuing teacher by identifying, investigating and publishing effective and innovative practice.
