NRDC teacher educator handbooks (Ongoing)
What the project entails:

This project will produce practical handbooks for Skills for Life teacher educators involved in the delivery of initial teacher education (ITE) and continuing professional development (CPD) programmes.

The handbooks will offer a rich resource for those delivering ITE and CPD programmes for SFL teachers. The writers will draw on their practical experience in teacher education, and on a wide range of research, in particular findings from completed NRDC projects, both in the areas of teacher education and effective practice.

Aims:
  • support and develop the quality of initial and continuing teacher education through the provision of tailored handbooks.
  • bridge this gap in the extent to which teacher educators are successful in linking the theoretical aspects of the subject specifications with their application in literacy and ESOL learning environments (see ITE programmes for teachers of adult literacy and ESOL), with an emphasis on firm links between, for example, linguistic theory and the specialist pedagogy of adult literacy teaching.
  • provide the resource to ‘buy out’ teacher educators from their normal teacher education responsibilities to allow them to contribute to these books.
